Role Description
We're hiring our first dedicated Product Owner to partner directly with the VP of Product and our engineering team. You'll bring structure to a fast-moving environment, own delivery end-to-end, and still get to think like a product person — not just a project manager.
You'll step into a real moment for the company: we're keeping our current POS platform stable through summer busy season while concurrently building the next-generation version. Your job is to make that juggling act work.
If you take pride in clean execution, want real ownership from day one, and want runway to grow into broader product responsibilities, this is a strong fit.
What You'll Do
- Own backlog quality end-to-end — write clear user stories, define acceptance criteria, think through edge cases, and keep work prioritized and ready.
- Run bi-weekly backlog grooming and sprint planning. Participate in daily stand-ups and proactively flag risks before they become delivery problems.
- Drive release readiness across Preview, Staging, and Production — coordinating QA, communications, and post-release stabilization.
- Partner with the VP of Product to translate roadmap direction into sequenced work — and defend it against scope creep with structured trade-off conversations.
- Use AI tools daily to accelerate discovery, draft PRDs, surface edge cases, and process meeting transcripts.
- Take ownership of specific roadmap items end-to-end — scope them, research them, and shepherd them from concept to launch.
- Work directly with engineering, Customer Success, and our customer service team to pull real signal from the field into the backlog.
- Help define and manage requirements for third-party integrations (CRM, financing partners, accounting, AI tools).
What We're Looking For
- 2–5 years in a Product Owner, Associate PM, or similar execution-focused SaaS product role.
- Hands-on Agile delivery experience — backlog grooming, sprint planning, crisp user stories.
- A natural ability to bring structure to ambiguous environments. You don't wait for a process to exist — you build one.
- Strong product instinct: you push back when needed, frame trade-offs with data, and ask "why?" before "how?"
- Comfort using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.) as part of your daily workflow.
- Clear, direct communicator. You create alignment, remove ambiguity, and don't hide bad news.
- Flexible and adaptable — comfortable shifting context and wearing multiple hats in a small-team environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting a platform migration or replatforming effort.
- Exposure to FinTech, POS systems, or contractor/SMB software.
- Informal design experience — Figma sketches, side projects, an eye for UX.
- Familiarity with APIs and how data flows between systems.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM.
What Success Looks Like
- First 60–90 days: Sprint cadence is sharp. Backlog is clean and ready. Engineering operates with clarity. The VP of Product gets meaningful time back.
- Months 3–6: You own scoped roadmap items end-to-end. You're contributing to product decisions and starting to influence what we build next.
- Months 6–12: You've earned broader product ownership — helping shape the next-gen platform and operating as a true product partner.
Why Join
- First product hire outside the VP of Product. Your fingerprints will be on how we build, ship, and operate.
- Real growth runway as we add channels and product lines.
- Mission-critical platform — what you ship gets used by thousands of contractors and homeowners, immediately.
- AI-forward culture — we use it heavily and expect our team to do the same.
- Direct collaboration with the VP of Product, engineering leadership, CFO, and CEO. No layers.
Benefits
Medical, vision, and dental insurance. 401(k). Paid time off.
