What you will do:
Electra is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician performing at or above a Journeyman level to support the maintenance, repair, installation, and optimization of fixed plant mechanical equipment and related systems at its production facility. This contract role is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and component replacement to ensure equipment reliability and safe, continuous operations. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with heavy industrial mechanical systems and the ability to work independently in a startup and commissioning environment with evolving processes
Responsibilities include:
- Safely perform diagnostic, maintenance, installation, replacement, and repair activities on fixed plant mechanical equipment and associated systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems and perform removal, repair, and installation of components including vibratory screens, conveyors, dust suppression and dust collection systems, pumps, pit dewatering systems, piping systems, and hydraulic systems
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, conveyors, gearboxes, compressors, and other mechanical systems
- Perform mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance activities, including changing filters on dust collection systems, inspecting screens, seals, gaskets, and expansion joints for wear or leakage, and maintaining lubrication systems
- Perform removal, repair, and installation of piping and pump components including valves, expansion joints, and check valves
- Assist in the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new mechanical equipment
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, piping diagrams, and equipment manuals
- Perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Prioritize work and make sound decisions regarding equipment repair, outage response, and maintenance execution
- Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, and perform routine work area inspections
- Support spare parts inventory management and recommend replacement parts as needed
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, reliability programs, and preventive maintenance planning
- Perform advanced welding and fabrication work as required
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and boom trucks (where qualified)
- Train, mentor, and support development of other mechanical employees
- Serve as Fill-In Supervisor when required, coordinating work execution and safety
- Assist Operations with equipment operation as needed
- Perform additional duties as required to support business and operational needs
- Work shifts including days, swing shifts, nights, weekends, and overnight coverage in a 24/7/365 operation
What we need you to bring to the team:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience performing mechanical maintenance within industrial, manufacturing, mining, or processing environments
- Strong experience with rotating equipment, conveying systems, pumps, piping, and hydraulic systems
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance practices, and safe work execution
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, precision measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
- Knowledge of lean maintenance and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices
- Preferred experience in chemical, metallurgical, battery materials, hydrometallurgy, or critical mineral processing environments
- Familiarity working around strong chemicals or oxidizing solutions (e.g., low-pH or acidic environments)
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment
- Excellent situational awareness, judgment, and decision-making under pressure
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Adaptability to a startup and commissioning environment without established
- No formal occupational license required
What we want you to bring to the team:
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Technical training or certification in mechanical maintenance, industrial technology, or a related field
- Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, and rigging certification
- Exposure to predictive maintenance technologies, such as vibration analysis and thermography
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $36.00-$42.00 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
