Job Description
The Grounds & Utility Wastewater Technician supports daily operations across facility grounds, utility systems, and wastewater processes. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, safety‑minded, and comfortable working both outdoors and around industrial equipment. The technician assists with routine maintenance, waste handling, and general utility tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Duties assigned include, but are not limited to, the following examples:
Maintain facility grounds, including trash and debris pickup, general cleaning, and basic landscaping tasks
Adjust, clean equipment as needed
Handle chemicals safely, including storage, labeling, and usage in accordance with safety guidelines
Follow all safety, environmental, and operational protocols
Preventing issues before they occur with specific utilities
Perform daily inspections of equipment and report issues promptly
Protect building structures from environmental issues
Assist with utility system checks, minor repairs, and routine maintenance tasks
Operate forklift, pallet jack, and other PITs as required.
Qualifications
Forklift Certification (current and valid)
Knowledge of safety rules including OSHA rules to avoid injury to self and others or damage to equipment.
Knowledge of safety equipment and procedures.
Familiarity with utilities, wastewater systems, or industrial facility operations
Strong attention to detail and willingness to perform hands‑on physical tasks
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Reliable attendance and strong teamwork skills
Qualifications
Any satisfactory combination of experience, education, and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described may be substituted for the above. Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license at the time of appointment and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must have Forklift certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is performed both inside and outside. It can involve bending, climbing, kneeling, heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, stooping, extended periods of standing and walking, fine hand and arm motor skills, and exposure to cleaning and landscaping chemicals. Must have good or corrected vision and color vision.
