Position Summary
The janitorial support technician is responsible for maintaining facility cleanliness, sanitation, and functional integrity through routine custodial tasks and minor maintenance repairs. While the core of the role involves high-volume cleaning, the "technician" designation often implies specialized expertise in floor care machinery, chemical safety, and basic building systems.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities are typically divided between daily sanitation routines and technical facility upkeep.
Sanitation & Surface Care
- Daily Cleaning: Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floor surfaces, including office areas, hallways, and common rooms.
- Restroom Maintenance: Sanitize toilets, sinks, and mirrors; restock consumable supplies like soap and paper products.
- Disinfection: Regularly sanitize high-touch surfaces (door handles, light switches, elevator buttons) to prevent the spread of germs.
- Waste Management: Collect and dispose of trash and recycling; monitor for hazardous waste that requires special handling.
Technical & Specialized Maintenance
- Advanced Floor Care: Operate heavy machinery like industrial buffers, scrubbers, and extractors to strip, wax, or shampoo floors.
- Minor Repairs: Perform light maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and fixing minor drywall damage.
- Inventory Control: Track and report stock levels of cleaning chemicals and equipment; ensure tools are maintained in working order.
- Safety Compliance: Identify and report major maintenance needs or structural hazards to supervisors.
Position Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be a team player and willing to help where needed
- Have and maintain a positive attitude, professional, and open to ideas.
- Employees must abide by all safety protocols and utilize all required PPE
- Prefer candidates with experience utilizing various equipment including Sit down forklift, reach truck, and Turret truck. Candidates should not have an issue with going up to 30 ft. on equipment
- Ability to lift, up to 75 lbs. position requires standing, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling and lifting for the entire duration of the shift.
- Work in a non-temperature regulated warehouse
Key Skills and Competencies
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of chemical safety (SDS/MSDS), operation of power scrubbers and buffers, and basic mechanical aptitude for repairs.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot missed spots or early signs of wear and tear in facility infrastructure.
- Time Management: Efficiency in completing a high volume of tasks independently, often within strict time windows (e.g., before business hours).
- Communication: Maintaining professional interactions with building occupants and following complex written safety protocols.
