Position Overview:
The Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining and optimizing automated production equipment to ensure efficient operation while meeting all safety, quality, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a strong safety-first mindset.
- Provide technical support to maintenance and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, including sensors, valves, level detectors, and control devices.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and other automation and control systems.
- Diagnose and repair automation equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, system backups, and software updates to ensure equipment reliability.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and ladder logic diagrams.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to improve machine performance and implement process improvements.
- Support equipment upgrades, automation projects, and new system installations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation within a CMMS system.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry regulatory standards.
- Assist production and maintenance teams with daily operational needs as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong experience with industrial automation systems and electrical troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC programming platforms such as Studio 5000 and RSLogix 500.
- Experience troubleshooting safety circuits and working with control voltages ranging from 24VDC to 480VAC.
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot VFDs, servo drives, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of industrial networking and instrumentation systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with automation platforms and devices such as Red Lion, IFM, KEYENCE, SICK, Endress+Hauser, and Siemens systems is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of automation, controls, or industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Degree in Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience.
