Senior Controls & Robotics Engineer
Sojo Industries
Location: Commuting distance from any Sojo Hub (Langhorne PA, Redlands CA, Temple TX, Indianapolis IN)
About Us
Sojo Industries is a fast-growing industrial automation company delivering efficient packaging and assembly solutions to the food and beverage industry. With a focus on robotics, mobility, and modularity, Sojo has built sophisticated, automated SQF-compliant regional “Hubs” and leads the industry with its mobile manufacturing technology, Sojo “Flight”. As we scale rapidly, we are looking for driven, innovative, technically savvy and hard-working individuals to join our team.
The Mission
As the Senior Controls & Robotics Engineer, you will be an individual contributor, as the primary architect of Sojo Industries’ automated future. You will own the logic, design, deployment, upgrades, improvements and troubleshooting for a growing fleet of 10+ industrial/collaborative robots and 30+ PLCs, HMIs across our national “Hub” and "Flight" network. You aren't just deploying automation; you are building the "Sojo Standard" for how we scale up packaging automation at speed with modularity and mobility considerations.
Core Responsibilities
- Architectural Ownership: Lead the design and development of PLC logic (Allen-Bradley/Siemens) and HMI interfaces for complex secondary packaging lines.
- Robotic Integration: Own the full lifecycle (programming, pathing, and safety) for our industrial (Fanuc/ABB) and collaborative (UR) robot fleet.
- Standardization: Develop and maintain the "Master Code Library" to ensure code portability between fixed Hubs and dynamic Flight sites.
- Strategic Deployment: Partner with OEMs and Project Engineers to lead the technical sourcing, commissioning, and go-live of new automation equipment at sites across the US.
- Tier 3 Support: Serve as the final escalation point for the most complex technical challenges that local maintenance teams cannot resolve.
- Innovation Pipeline: Prototype new robotics systems, evaluate new AI-driven systems, and high-speed end-of-line modular packaging solutions.
- Mobility: Integrate industrial automation equipment onto Sojo’s Rovers – the next generation mobile manufacturing platform.
- Networking: Set and deploy company-wide networking standards for industrial automation equipment for centralized remote accessibility and for future SCADA/MES integrations.
Technical Requirements
- PLC Mastery: 7+ years of expert-level experience with RSLogix/Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal. Experience with motion control and multi-axis synchronized systems is non-negotiable.
- Robotics Expertise: Proven track record of deploying 6-axis robots and COBOTs in a manufacturing environment. Must be comfortable with Fanuc TP, Kuka KRL, or URScript.
- Networking: Strong understanding of industrial protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus) and how to integrate them into a broader SCADA/MES environment.
- Safety Standards: Expert knowledge of ANSI/RIA/ISO safety standards for robotic cells, including light curtains, area scanners, and safety PLC logic.
The Mindset
- Think Globally, Act Locally: You build code in a Hub in PA that can be deployed in a hub in TX and is troubleshoot-able by a maintenance tech in IN.
- Systemic Problem Solver: You don’t just "patch" code; you find the root cause and update the master standard, so the issue never happens at another site.
- Collaborative Leader: You are a good communicator and work seamlessly with cross functional teams – maintenance, operations, commercial, project engineering, packaging engineering, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-engineering stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent "battle-tested" field experience).
- Experience: 8+ years in manufacturing automation, specifically within packaging, high-speed sortation, or FMCG.
- Travel: Ability to travel up to 50% to support "Flight" site launches and “Hub” projects.
